Biography
A native of Bolivia, Angelica Monje Torrez is a rare contralto whose career bridges the Baroque archives of the New World with the leading stages of Europe. Trained at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and the Hochschule für Musik Weimar, she made her debut at 17 in the acclaimed Bolivian Baroque recording series. As a musicologist, she has gained recognition for attributing works by Hasse and Bach found within the South American mission archives.
An international soloist and specialist in historical performance, she regularly collaborates with renowned conductors such as Leonardo García Alarcón, Diego Fasolis, Jordi Savall, and Christina Pluhar (L'Arpeggiata). A prize-winner at major competitions (Innsbruck, London, Naples), she excels in both Baroque opera and modern pasticcios. A 2022 alumna of the Prangins Baroque Academy, she continues to lead a dual career as a performer and researcher, exploring the boundaries between vocal registers and cultures.
