Andrew Taheny

Andrew Taheny is a violinist from Glasgow, Scotland. He began playing the baroque violin while studying music at the University of Edinburgh, where he was awarded the St. Cecilia’s Hall Early Music Scholarship, the Sir Thomas Beecham Performing Scholarship, the Andrew Grant Recital Bequest and the Frederick Niecks Dissertation Prize.

While in Edinburgh, Andrew also studied with Peter Holman and Judy Tarling at the Cambridge Early Music Summer School, and performed with the Chamber Orchestra of the Berlin Opera Academy.

Andrew recently completed a Master’s degree in violin performance at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. While there, he conducted the RNCM Baroque Ensemble and performed with Manchester Baroque, Manchester Camerata, Collegium Musicum 90, Northern Chamber Orchestra and the Cambridge Handel Opera Company.

He also spent a year as Leader-Scholar with Belsize Baroque, working closely with their director, Catherine Martin, and performed at summer festivals with Rachel Podger, Lucy Russell, Bojan Čičić and Laurence Cummings.

In October, Andrew Taheny will begin a year-long fellowship with Southbank Sinfonia, bringing orchestral and chamber music of different genres to audiences and communities in London and beyond.
